Hormone balance can be influenced by a number of factors in men and women. Fluctuations in hormone levels occur throughout the lifecycle, some are just a natural part of aging while others may be the result of stress, toxic exposures, diet, or unhealthy sleep patterns.

It is important to monitor your hormone levels throughout the lifespan and take action early to address imbalances before it affects your health or quality of life.

Symptoms of Hormone Imbalance

The symptoms of hormone imbalance may vary from person to person and evolve over time. For example, a woman may experience menopausal symptoms, like hot flashes during the early stages of menopause, but she may continue to experience these discomforts for years after menstrual cycle has stopped. Men often experience symptoms on an intermittent basis as testosterone levels begin to decline in his late 20s. Symptoms often become for frequent or compile as a man reaches middle age.

The Benefits of Balanced Hormones

Achieving hormone balance offers men and women a number of benefits, such as more energy, better sleep, and stabilized moods, but beyond that research has shown that hormone therapy improves overall health by reducing risk of disease.

Late in 2015, the results of the Veterans Database Study found that men who treated low testosterone with testosterone therapy experienced a reduced risk of heart disease and stroke. A study published in the New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM) early 2016 found that testosterone therapy improved mood, sexual health, and physical fitness in men.  Now, having said that, we also believe that we have to find the CAUSE of one’s low testosterone and address that, otherwise we will be chasing the symptom and keep injecting the patient with more testosterone.  Imagine if you have a bucket with a hole in the bottom.  The water will keep leaking out.  We can continue to pour water in the bucket and the levels keep lowering (we can keep chasing the symptom, which is low levels). The same thing is happening to men.  As long as their bucket has a hole (they can be converting testosterone to estrogen), the medical field will try to sell you more expensive testosterone shots, but if we can find out what’s causing the testosterone to become low, we can address that and maintain the levels and stop the need of the expensive shots.

Among women, balancing out the hormones naturally is the key.  Prohibiting or minimizing the unpleasant experiences of many hormonal imbalance symptoms and avoiding many dangerous health problems is our ultimate goal at Wellness 1st Integrative Medical Center, LLC.  Again, with the changes that a female goes through in their lifetime, certain points need to be looked at.  We believe in balancing the hormones naturally by a drug-free approach, which has been very effective in the integrative and functional medicine field.  Unfortunately, a lot of money is being made in this field by just giving them a drug, injection or pellets and etc. before even trying to balance it out naturally by supporting the organs that produce or stabilize the hormones as one ages.  So, the earlier we can provide this therapy for menopausal women, the better chance we have in helping to reduce the frequency and severity of symptoms. In March of 2016, the results of the highly anticipated ELITE study were published in NEJM, finding that women who began therapy early in their menopausal years experienced a reduced risk of cardiovascular disease.

On the other token, hormonal imbalance can be experienced at other ages as well.  By simply testing properly for this, allows us to help them as well so they do not have to go through life experiencing such symptoms and suffer with any unnecessary discomfort.  And that all can be achieved with harmless natural supplements that help support the organs and allows them to work properly.

At some point, if one needs to be operated on or needs certain medications, then we work with their doctors to make sure that gets done of course, but our first line of defense is to help stabilize the system by supporting it naturally, unless otherwise.

Finding the Right Balance

The practitioners at Wellness 1st Integrative Medical Center, LLC are trained and confident in alternative ways of balancing your hormone health. It may require a different approach to help balance each patient’s hormonal issues.  Just simply giving the hormone may not be the right way to go.  One might have issues with the precursors or pathways to the hormone production or elimination process, one might have issues with the organs that produce or stabilize the hormones and etc.  In our clinic, everyone is evaluated fully before any natural remedies are recommended or rendered and each individual is supported uniquely according to their test results.  By simply helping support the organs, we can stabilize and balance the hormones as best as possible.  At that point, if there are any more needed, we support bio-identical hormones, but not until the system is balanced out and working properly.  Our belief system is that we need to do the right thing for our patients by addressing the cause of their problems rather than just selling them any injections, pellets or etc.  We are here to maximize the patient’s life and health potentials and minimize the health risks and side effects by providing all natural supplements without the risks and side effects.
